What is ethnography?
Brainstorming for the term project
|
1. Take a picture of something that represents the culture to which you belong; we all belong to many cultures but choose the one which most describes you.
2. Upload it to the wiki and make sure to name the picture file with the 3 1st letters of your last name + the 1st of your first name, + an identification of whatever you photographed. (Mine will be: Bamdstudents.)
3. Make a wiki page in the ETHNOGRAPHY subfolder found in the CULTURE folder. Use the same naming system as above + "My Culture".
4. Put your picture on your wiki page and explain what that picture represents, not what it is.
5. Include a link to a web page that best describes your understanding of that culture to which you belong. Write a brief explanation to help us understand what you mean. You can see MY PAGE as an example.
Need to remember how to upload a file/picture to the wiki? Click here.

1. Begin work on brainstorm/outline for final web projects - invite me to this Google Doc
2. What shapes culture? Answer this question with your note taking partner. Use these 3 resources: the Michael Wesch video (see above) and no. 3 + 4 in the cell to the left. You will create two slides (or more if you want) and add them to this Google presentation. Each slide will have 3 things: a) an attractive visual that enhances your answer, b) some brief text explaining your answer and c) a link to ONE source that gives extra information/understanding of your answer. (And the names of the students!) This must be done at the end of today`s class.
HOMEWORK: Watch the Endangered Cultures Video for Friday and add your slides to the Google Presentation.

We talked about Michael Chorost and discussed what makes a good comment on the voicethread. We made groups and began working on a presentation of the topics assigned: 1- The Dark Side of the Web (Evgeny Morozov), 2- Harvey Fineberg, The Future of Evolution, 3- How Tech Evolves, Kevin Kelly, 4 - The Future of Books, Kevin Kelly, 5- The Gamification of Life, Jane McGonigal, 6- The Future of Money (for Julia and Leandra who were absent). |
The outline should be done by Sunday at 6 (the latest). The work on presenting your topics will continue on Wednesday (but Julia and Leandra) need to get a head start. You will get one class to finish this work. Each group should have a google doc of notes that show collaboration and combined effort. The groups may choose to present their topic/idea to the class in a variety of ways: Google document, Google presentation or Voicethread. |
